I've lost 299 pounds and I'm currently in a successful maintenance mode. I eat well--and only things I truly enjoy, but my biggest challenge has been increasing the variety of my choices. Joy's food philosophy as it applies to weight loss and simply taking better care, in general, mirrors not just my thoughts--it mirrors my experience. Joy is spot on. I'm looking forward to learning a lot from her work! Make it easy, make it healthier, make it taste incredible--and I'm there, every time. And that's exactly what she does with this book.The first recipe I tried was Barbecue "Ribs." I chose this one for a reason.Several years ago, after learning of the BBQ Rib menu at a special function I was set to attend, I did my calorie counting research and was absolutely appalled at what I found. One single rib, depending on size, could be anywhere from 250 calories to 450 or more---for one rib!!It didn't fit into my calorie budget at all. So I declined the ribs on that occasion. And on every other occasion since...Because it was that night--over six years ago, I declared ribs off limits simply based on calorie value. I concluded there would never be a circumstance worth the caloric investment required for BBQ Ribs.Until now.Joy wrote, "I totally rethought ribs." And now, thanks to her, I have too!!I couldn't find a sugar free BBQ Sauce, so I made my own.--and following Joy's recipe, the double serving (8oz) of "ribs" checked in at a very manageable 389 calories. I'm impressed.The "ribs" were incredibly delicious--with all the taste of meaty-dripping with sauce, ribs. It was plenty of food (more than enough, actually)--and a great calorie value!I would have never thought to rework "ribs" in this exceptionally creative and delicious way.Embracing my weight loss maintenance food plan starts with truly enjoying what I'm eating each day. The more variety I can add to my regular selection of good choices, the better! Thank you, Joy, for putting together an exceptional book that helps me do exactly that!I'm not DIEting, I'm LIVING!

Amazing.....co-worker bought for herself and college son. Bought for my mom, now my dad is eating things he loves, but has no idea the healthy things that are in it. Brownie recipe: Did a taste test with a friend, he hates black beans......he took several bits and could not guess it was black beans. Now he looks forward to me creating new additions in the brownies. (SF Cheesecake Pudding mix or PB 2 or frozen dark cherries w/ juice). What I do: Use strainer for beans, do not just rinse in can, add the water straight to processor, not can. Use SF brownie mix (on Amazon) DO NOT ADD OIL like box recipe says. Continue with recipe. Take 1/4 of batter, add your flavors, pour on top. Use parchment paper. Make double batch in a glass pan, do not cook as long as box recipe says (knife test, still have mixture on knife) remove from oven. Lift out of glass dish by parchment paper, let rest. Slice, place in zip lock bags, put in refrigerator. Heat: A few seconds in microwave inside the plastic bag. Enjoy with milk.

What prompted me to order this book was seeing the author, Joy Bauer, on "Good Morning America." Joy showed how you could have two identical dishes of food - i.e. a submarine sandwich with turkey, tomato, lettuce and a little mayo. This dish was served with potato chips and I think the calories for this lunch meal was around 650 calories....To turn this lunch meal to less calories, you would take the dough in the middle of the french roll, put the same food that the other meal sandwich had and instead of having potato chips, substitute popcorn - a couple of cups. Making those few changes brought that meal down to about 290 calories. This is a marvelous book if you want to shed those extra pounds.. It is a good book to learn how to cut those extra calories with just a few changes.

Love, love, love this book! It has transformed not only the way I cook for my husband and myself, but our whole outlook on food. It has given us a healthier way of eating without the guilt. We are foodies and the fact that we can enjoy these recipes and NOT feel deprived is a big deal.It's filled with family friendly food using mostly stock items. No buying odd stuff. Well worth the purchase price!

I got this for a present for friends but on reviewing the actual book it seems colorful, clear, simple, and fun. So the bottom line, would you use it, is likely 'yes'.
